The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a meeting of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Belarus H.E. Mr. Sajjad Haider Khan with Belarusian business community representatives.

Besides, more than 70 representatives of Belarusian enterprises operating in the fields of mechanical engineering, trade, pharmaceutical industry, textiles, food production, education, investment, transport, logistics, banking services, science and innovations joined the online broadcast of the meeting.

Vladimir Ulakhovich noted that Pakistan is a country with a capacious market, and this country is actively developing and building a multi-vector foreign economic policy. Cooperation with Belarus meets the interests of Pakistan, Belarusian products of mechanical engineering, chemical industry, pharmaceuticals are familiar to the consumer and are in demand on the market of this country. The necessary conditions have been created for the development of the Belarus-Pakistan trade and economic cooperation: the exchange of visits by delegations of different levels is carried out, the Business Council is functioning, the work of which did not stop due to the restrictions imposed and continued in an online format. This year, it is planned to hold a bilateral forum within the framework of the joint Belarusian-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as to organize the National Exposition of Belarus at International Trade & Industry Fair in Karachi. “Unfortunately, the pandemic negatively affected bilateral trade last year – the increase in mutual turnover was small. At the same time, the potential for cooperation is very serious, especially in the fields of mechanical engineering, petroleum chemistry, food industry. Besides, Pakistan is the largest exporter of textiles, which opens up significant opportunities for cooperation with our light industry enterprises,” the BelCCI Chairman said. He stressed that the businessmen of the two countries are interested in early return to the traditional format of dialogue and the pre-pandemic level of relations. And the meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary is another step on this path.

The meeting participants were informed about the promising fields of Belarus-Pakistan trade and economic interaction, new export niches for Belarusian companies in the market of Pakistan, the peculiarities of business and investment climate, tourist potential, and the financial mechanisms to support foreign companies doing business in Pakistan.

Following the official part of the meeting, the Belarusian businessmen held negotiations with Mr. Sajjad Haider Khan and directly asked questions concerning cooperation with Pakistani partners.
